ABOUT ME

I have been a resident of Parkville since 2014, when my wife, son, and I moved from Lee's Summit. We really enjoy living at Riss Lake with the close proximity to English Landing and Lakeview, not to mention English Landing Park and Platte Landing Park, and the quick drive to the airport and downtown.

PASSION FOR SERVICE

I have a long history dedicated to service.  From STUCO to various service organizations (Rotary, Optimist, PTA), to representing a 2,000 home HOA, and two different cities, I have a passion for responsiveness and connecting people to resources.  I am usually able to respond to requests within the same day - sometimes within minutes.

KNACK FOR EFFICIENCY

In my past roles as a HOA President and City Councilmember, and currently as your Alderperson, I continually pursue ways to deliver high-quality services in the most cost-effective way possible.

Example: With an annual HOA budget of $1 million, I was able to save $77,000 a year to put towards new projects - a paved trail along the shoreline, a renovated clubhouse, and a new deck overlooking the shoreline. I did this by eliminating private security and hiring off-duty police officers (with arrest authority) to patrol critical areas at critical times based on analytics. I developed a bar code system for pool management that was tied to dues payments that virtually eliminated non-payment and allowed for even cashflow which in turn allowed the HOA to take advantage of opportunities for further cost-savings.

ACCOUNTABILITY

In my elected positions, I have served the people for some time now. During that time, I have learned many (but not all) ways that applications for development might omit or cloud key details in their plans. I brought the concept of "collars" to Parkville to keep developers who ask for tax incentives honest. Too often, I have seen squishy land valuation numbers and other soft costs or lease delays used to inflate the cost of a development to qualify for more tax incentives. Collars prevent windfalls to developers when a project is successful - and returns that money more quickly to you, the taxpayer.
